Singapore Flag Wiping the Floor in Beijing?

I didn’t notice this when I was watching it live, but apparently, our flag bearer, China-born Li Jiawei was said to have dragged touched our flag on the floor during the march-in.

Personally, I’d rather a naturalized Singaporean carry the flag but then again, the government wants to show the world that we have a super lax immigration policy I guess.
I’d much prefer, Ms Yeo or Remy Ong to carry the flag. Someone recognizable in Singapore history. Fandhi Ahmad would be nice too. I think its quite disrespectful of Li Jiawei for not respecting the flag and allowing it to tip to one side and touch the floor.
People say that perhaps the flag is too big for her. Perhaps, then someone else should take over. She also doesn’t seem proud or happy to be holding the flag. Look at Japan, their flag bearer is a girl who is smaller sized than Jiawei and yet she can hold it with such gusto and pride.

Under the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem Act,
Respect for Flag
4.—(1) No person shall treat the Flag with disrespect.
(2) No person in possession of the Flag shall allow or cause
the Flag to touch the floor or ground, even when lowering the
Flag from a staff or flagpole
I thought it was quite interesting to see the debate over at HWZ. Many people are puzzled at why EDMWers are making a big fuss over the touching of the flag, after most EDMW are always criticizing how the country sucks and all.
I think there’s a giant misconception that Singaporeans have. PAP is not = Singapore. Being against PAP policies doesn’t mean that you’re anti-Singapore. Even the most hardcore opposition member would feel a sense of pride when the national flag is representing in a world event.
I hope people realise that just because you support the opposition and you dislike PAP policies doesn’t make you anti-patriot. Singapore is bigger than the PAP.
Our government has a very open mind. They value foreigners as long as they are so-called “talents”. That’s why these foreign talents will be given PR status and they “can be” Singaporean to carry the state flag.
It’s great to see so many patriotic singaporeans around.
Happy National Day!
woah. 145 views, thats a first. lol.
Actually, there are other entries with over 300+ views mang.
The very first thought that came to my mind when I saw Li Jiawei carrying the flag was,”You mean, there are no true blue Singaporeans there?” Personally, I find it insulting and there is no respect shown to the true blue Singaporean athletes.
In addition, she does’nt even seem to have pride to carry our flag. I wonder what kind of impression that makes to the world out there? Last note, with her high profile… anyone else from the home team makes a better choice.
Sometimes, a question of gold medal vs integrity rings in my head.
Don’t let her carry our flag in future international sports evens, since she cannot carry it properly. get a macho man to handle next time. pls respect our Singapore flag.
